Mi Mirador

I was inspired to create this website during 3 months exploring Costa Rica in late 2025. I was on the slow road from Atenas to Orotina and I pulled over at a mirador for a break. It was one of those minor, life-changing moments. Mountains, valleys, coffee farms, Pacific all in one view. While driving, I had been so focused on staying on the twisty-windy road that I had barely noticed just how beautiful the countryside was. The mountains and sea had been there all along, but I had to stop at the mirador to notice.

Later that night, while looking back at some of my favourite photos from the last 30 years, I realized that about 90% of them were miradors. England, Wales, Scotland, Australia, Canada and now Costa Rica.

I kept noticing things, in life, on the news and in sports where what you’re hearing is more influenced by perspective than by facts. Trying to figure out where people were coming from before reaching their conclusions became more interesting than the conclusions

This gallery / blog is primarily a creative outlet for me, Julian Mendl. I hope to capture those moments where your viewpoint changes based on where you’re standing, or what lens you are using.
